We kick off February with METRO MANILA, an exciting story of crime, corruption and family devotion. Rotten Tomatoes considers the film " just as gripping as any action blockbuster -- and twice as thought-provoking."

Don't miss it this Friday at 7 PM at The Yard as we continue with ur film program Work in Progress in collaboration with Alserkal Avenue.

This screening is made possible thanks to Front Row Filmed Entertainment

Directed by: Sean Ellis
2013 | Philippines, UK | PG 13 | Drama, Crime | Tagalog, English | 105 min

Seeking a brighter future in megacity Manila, Oscar Ramirez and his family flee their impoverished life in the rice fields of the northern Philippines. But the sweltering capital's bustling intensity quickly overwhelms them, and they fall prey to the rampant manipulations of its hardened locals. Oscar Ramirez catches a lucky break when he's offered steady work for an armored truck company and gregarious senior officer Ong takes him under his wing. Soon, though, the reality of his work's mortality rate and the murky motives of his new partner force Oscar to confront the perils he faces in his new job and life. The movie portrays how far a man can go for his family.

Welcoming a brand new film season at Alserkal Avenue, Cinema Akil returns to The Yard and A4 Space with a lineup celebrating the finest in a broad spectrum of must-see contemporary, international films, spanning the past decade.

Curated with a wide range of audiences in mind, Work in Progress will capture the moment in the developing story of bringing an arthouse cinema to the heart of Al Quoz. The program also broadens the conversation on the topic of “work” which is the central theme of Alserkal Avenue’s community programming. The topic will also be explored through artist commissions, talks, workshops and special events throughout the year.

The lineup will be an accessible program with the majority of screenings presented in the open-air theater setting in The Yard, under the starry night. For 18 weeks, from November 2016 to March 2017, Alserkal Avenue Programming and Cinema Akil collaborate to present a cinematic journey bringing audiences together for the love of film.

Work in Progress is a season of film that will harness the creation of a cinema-going culture in Dubai, week by week, step by step, film by film, one screening at a time.
