In the pursuit to achieve sustainable education for children

In keeping with its mission to extend assistance into Asia, Education Above All (EAA) Foundation’s programme, Reach Out to Asia, has kicked off its three-day Partners Advocacy Conference held at the Students Center, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, at the Education City.

Reflecting on ROTA’s mission, the Partners Advocacy Conference is an opportunity to promote sustainable education through intellectual debates which will help in creating practical and academic discussions, exchanging ideas, and achieving a unified advocacy path with international partners towards sustainable education for children.

In order to reach out to as many regions as possible, ROTA has been tying with many renowned organisations. Some of these participating countries and organizations include Care Foundation / International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO), Hashoo Foundation from Pakistan; UNICEF, Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM), GOVE from Bangladesh, Nepal, Philippines, Turkey and Indonesia; UNICEF, Titian Foundation, READ INGO, Dalit NGO Federation, Forum for Awareness and Youth Activity (FAYA), PLAN International Sudan,; Mercy Corps INGO from Tunisia; Norwegian Council RC INGO from Jordan; Anera, Sonbola, American University in Beirut (AUB) from Lebanon; and FC Barcelona, among others.

In his welcome address, Mr. Essa Al Mannai, Executive Director of ROTA Programme, said:

The world is getting younger and expectations for human rights respect and dignity are rising. Technology and globalization made societies more connected than ever, but intolerance and conflict remain widespread. Prospects for sustainable equitable, and inclusive development are vast, but challenges are sharp and complex. The world is changing – education adapt itself and must also change. That’s the core objective of hosting this summit and we are sure that ROTA Partners Advocacy Conference would be able to bring to life the burning issues that the society is facing and would derive at workable solutions that can be attained by getting together. I am extremely elated to see participation of organizations from many countries, which is a clear sign that the conference will result in fruitful outcomes. These power-packed three days will definitely help one and all to change the paradigms and develop a better world”.

During the first day of the conference, partners had shed light on subjects such as the global Advocacy Landscape on education and the need to achieve the goals of sustainable development.

Mrs. Juliette Touma, UNICEF Regional Office Representative, said during her lecture:

“We have worked at UNICEF for many years with a number of Qatari active institutions, including Education Above All foundation. The aim of this partnership is to jointly reduce the number of out of school children and ensure they receive quality education. A remarkable change was made at this level -taking the efforts exerted to support the Syrian refugee children into consideration – however much more work is still waiting, and we hope our partnership with Education Above All Foundation and the rest of the partners will lead to further progress. “

From her part, Dr. Khuloud Al Khatib, Representative of the Geneva Institute for Human Rights at the conference, said:

“Today’s meeting is of great importance as it sets a common roadmap for sustainable education among all concerned parties. When talking about education, we mean planting the roots for building strong bridges for our societies as the collapse of any nation is caused by the absence of education. By promoting the right to education, we aim to enhance the individual’s ability to participate in the society, and that’s a goal that we believe can be achieved through our joint efforts with partners and colleagues on the same mission, such as Education Above All Foundation through one of its programme, ROTA. We are confident that together we can positively influence the international mechanisms, national laws and objective policies to provide out of school children with the education they need“.

ROTA Partners Advocacy Conference intends to walk with partners the road of transformative education by focusing on a consultative, participatory approach to more strategically identify, anchor and jointly plan to provide access to quality education. It would also showcase the various approaches of advocacy as a science & an art streamlined through evidence, research and also other tools such as the different forms of art (sketching, caricatures, theater) and sports for the purpose of changing mindsets. The conference also intends to create an intellectual discussion, exchange ideas, and plan together to achieve a unified advocacy path with partners towards sustainable education for children where ROTA works.
