Healthy living is what no one likes to compromise on. Everyone wants his home neat and tidy, and all surfaces free of germs. The apt solution is to use the best cleaning products that normally comes in good fragrance but with toxic ingredients to give your house a ‘magical sparkle’.
However, it is not much healthy approach because of the harmful chemicals added to these cleaners. Many studies revealed that inert exposure to household cleaning products is a great threat to your health and fitness. Moreover, people usually find the home cleaners easy-to-overlook accessory to cut down expenses.
What to do then? Stop cleaning our homes? Quit doing laundry? No need to worry as homemade cleaners will not only help you to save your money but you can also get rid of potentially detrimental chemical additives.
Finding the middle ground, today I will tell you some health-friendly cleaners you can easily make yourself using natural ingredients. Most of the material is already there in your kitchen and the rest is surely not expensive.
For multiple floor surfaces in your house, this home-made cleaner will bring amazing shine to every hard floor-ceramic tile, vinyl, hardwood etc.
Things you Need:
- Warm water (2 cups)
- White vinegar (1/2 cup)
- Liquid dish soap- nontoxic (3 drops)
- Rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol (1/4 cup)
essential oils (5-10 drops)
Mix them all and here you go. You can use it in bucket or in a spray bottle which is a pretty good option as you can do future cleanings with it. While in bucket, you must dump remaining liquid after use.
In the same mix, to get scented cleaner, add your preferred essential oil or a mixture of two or more as you prefer. 15 drops will be enough. To deter the ants and mice, I would suggest you to add peppermint oil.
Bathroom is the place that needs extra care and cleanliness. Eliminate the use of chemicals and bring into play the following cleaners.
Things you need:
- Baking Soda
- Nontoxic Dish Soap
- Essential Oils (optional)
- Dish Scrubber (optional)
Mix 1 cup each of vinegar and baking soda, and dump straight into your toilet bowl. Leave it for a minute or two and then use the scrubber to get a sparkly clean bowl.
Mix 1/4 cup vinegar, 1/2 tsp dish soap and 2.5 cups water. Put the mixture in spray bottle and start to clean your mirrors. You can add few drops of essential oils like orange, lime etc as per your taste for the fragrance.
Take 4 oz. of vinegar and heat up in microwave for about 40-50 seconds until it gets hot nicely. Now, transfer it to spray bottle and add the same quantity of dish soap (4 oz). Squirt the mix on your shower, leave for few minutes and then wipe it off with scrubber. This cleaner will turn your nasty shower into as new as just installed.
3. Window Cleaner:
I always find window cleaning the toughest of all home cleaning jobs. I want to make the windows look crystal clear all the time especially the exterior. But it was consuming a bundle of cash but now with following homemade cleaner, I can instantly make my windows brighter any time I need.
- 2 cups of water
- 1/4 cup of white vinegar
- Half teaspoon of dish detergent
Mix them all and put in the spray bottle. Now spray the mixture on window and rinse thoroughly. Â For big or extremely filthy windows, you can make this solution in a bucket as per your need. Dip the bristle brush with handle in the bucket and scrub it on your window.
Always use soft brush and rinse the solution left on window with clean water. I prefer to use a hose attached with the sprayer accessory.
If you have carpeted areas in your home then you need to be little more careful. Add the homemade carpet cleaning solution to your machine to make your carpets clean and soft with no stomach-churning smell.
Things you need:
- 1 Gallon hot water*
- 1 Tablespoon dish soap
- 5 Tablespoons White Vinegar
- 1/4 Cup Hydrogen Peroxide 3%
Fill the water tank of your carpet cleaning machine with hot tap water and then add all other ingredients starting with dish soap (must be non-toxic). 3% peroxide is an antiseptic solution used in first aid usually for the cuts. You can get it from any pharmacy if not already available in your home.
Now clean your carpets as you normally do with the machine. I even don’t need to rinse it with hot water as this simple solution works amazingly.
* May vary in relation to your machine’s capacity, so adjust the other ingredients ratio accordingly.
