RTA (Roads and Transport Authority), Dubai is in the spotlight now-a-days. According to the latest news in Dubai, RTA is going to build 12 new marine transport stations at Dubai canals including Business Bay and Dubai Water Canal. After this, number of total marine stations will rise to 18.

In pursuit to serve people of Dubai, RTA is giving considerable importance to the modern public transport system including marine stations. This is intended to encourage Dubai inhabitants and tourists to use marine transportation structure including Abra, water taxi and bus, and the Dubai Ferry.

“Five of these stations are being built at the Dubai Water Canal project; which is currently underway, and the remaining seven stations will be built at the Business Bay Canal by 2018.” DG & Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA- Mattar Al Tayer mentioned.

He further added, “The marine transport sector will witness a quantum shift in the number and modes of transport, stations and riders with the completion of the link of the Business Bay Canal and the Dubai Water Canal with the Arabian Gulf.”

RTA’s Expansion Plan:

In last 5 years, RTA has successfully achieved and delivered several key projects. For instance,

  • Launching of 36-seater water bus.
  • Retro-fitting of 149 Abra engines
  • Revamped the Abra dockyards & marinas

Now, RTA is aimed to expand marine transport sector being a vital part of Dubai’s mass transit network. Every year, around 13 million people make use of marine transit.

Keeping in view the rising needs of Emirate’s residents and travelers from around the world, RTA has prepared a master plan in order to upgrade the marine transportation system. This will cover Dubai Creek area, coastal line of Jumeirah beaches, the Business Bay canal and also the Dubai Water Canal lines.
